Notes for Walking trailer

I’ve been editing a trailer for Notes for Walking, believe it or not, along with working madly to produce the work. Sound design by the very talented Michael Finucan, who is also doing sound for the smartphone app and the gallery installation. The app is currently in development, and is not yet available. Exciting announcement on the project in a couple of weeks!

Behind the locked gate at Middle Head

There is a locked gate at Middle Head, leading down steep steps to the cliff’s edge. A lookout cabin made of iron and stone perches near the edge, above the place that is called The Sound. I’ve wondered about what you can see from behind that locked gate, for months now. Today I found out.

“of day, of night” included in Judy Malloy’s Authoring Software site

A quick entry to say that some writing about my interactive narrative of day, of night has been included on Judy Malloy’s excellent Authoring Software site. Judy is one of electronic literature’s true pioneers, creating some of the earliest hypertexts / elit works, dating back to the 80’s. At Authoring Software, she invites digital writers and artists to describe how they developed their projects from a more creative and technical perspective. This is turning into a great little archive of author statements.   http://www.narrabase.net/megan_heyward.html  Judy’s bio is here :-  http://www.narrabase.net/#judy_bio

Notes for Walking ( the space in between time)

A quick update to say that I am busy working away on Notes for Walking. Currently creating the video notes for the project, working with sound designer Michael Finucan, and having ongoing discussions with Sydney mobile tech company Moblabs, developers of BuildAR CMS, to deliver the work via smartphone. Also of course in discussion with the wonderful folks at Mosman Art Gallery, the National Parks and Wildlife Service, UTS, plus a couple of other interesting people… In terms of what I post here, I am only posting a small amount of  work in progress materials, so that the work remains fresh and surprising when it is launched. Also… there are some exciting developments happening with this project. I can’t talk about them yet, but I will update you as soon as I can! Here are a couple of recent stills below. More

Forthcoming: Notes for Walking, Dec 2012 – Jan 2013

Notes for Walking (the space in between time) is an innovative locative artwork taking place at Middle Head Reserve and Mosman Art Gallery, in December 2012 and January 2013. Notes for Walking is a narrative written on landscape, which uses GPS and location based technologies to reveal an intriguing environment, where things are never quite what they seem. In Notes for Walking, visitors will use their mobile phones to discover a set of short video ‘notes’ as they explore the old naval fortifications on the headland, finding hidden zones and unexpected vistas. Working with the spectacular intersection of land, sea and sky at Middle Head Reserve, and the emerging capacities of augmented reality and location-based technologies, Notes for Walking is an intriguing exploration of a remarkable landscape. Notes for Walking at Middle Head, Dec 2012- Jan 2013

Notes for Walking is an upcoming locative artwork by Megan Heyward to be staged at Middle Head Reserve and Mosman Art Gallery, Sydney. In Notes for Walking, people use their mobile phones to gather a set of video ‘notes’ as they walk, as if they are picking up the fragments of a notebook which has split apart and scattered its pages across the landscape. Working with the spectacular intersections of land, sea and sky at Middle Head, and the emerging capacities of augmented reality and location based media; Notes for Walking is an intimate exploration of an intriguing landscape. Upcoming Dec 2012/ Jan 2013, in conjunction with Mosman Art Gallery. http://mosmanartgallery.org.au/exhibitions/notes-for-walking

‘of day, of night’ off-screen recording

I’ve finally found a way to share the interactive experience of  ‘of day, of night’ online, using an off screen recording of selected excerpts. Please note that the audio & interactive experience is higher quality and more immersive when running on your own computer or laptop, rather than as a video. Two video off-screen recordings have been created; the first around 3 and a half mins; the second 5 and a half mins. The actual project is normally experienced for around 15- 20 minutes.

Please go to my Vimeo channel here:- http://vimeo.com/meganheyward/videos or view the two embedded videos below

It has been exhibited in Australia, Europe, Japan and the US, and won high commendations in awards including the Australian Festival Awards for Literature and the AIMIA Best Arts & Cultural Project category. ‘of day, of night’ at ELO 2012

of day, of night has been selected for the upcoming ELO 2012 conference and media arts show Electrifying Literature : Affordances and Constraints at West Virginia University, June 2012. Exciting to be included in this conference and exhibition program. Electronic literature is again coming to prominence as the book as we know it becomes electric, networked, and something much more than purely text on a page. http://dtc-wsuv.org/elit/elo2012/elo2012/Welcome.html
