Australia Council grant for new electronic literature work

Very happy to mention that I have been recently been awarded an Australia Council Literature Board grant in New Media and Digital Writing, to develop a new electronic literature work for tablet devices. Work will start on this project in 2014, so more news once the project is underway next year.

Notes for Walking staged again as part of Mosman Festival / International Fleet Review

Notes for Walking will be staged again at Middle Head as part of Mosman Festival and Mosman Art Gallery’s site specific program during the International Fleet Review, on the October long weekend, 4-7 October, 2013. Remember to download the Notes for Walking app prior to visiting onsite. Please note that it is only running for iPhone, iPad and iPodTouch during the long weekend. Android users will need to visit the site with a iOS friend!

Notes for Walking – full compile

This is a full video compile of all 13 notes of Notes for Walking, a locative artwork and app developed for Middle Head National Park and Mosman Art Gallery as part of the Sydney Festival, January 2013. In Notes for Walking, thirteen short video notes are electronically tagged to features of landscape at Middle Head, asking audiences to contemplate notions of waiting, time and impermanence as they walk. Notes for Walking was downloaded to over 2,700 mobile devices during January 2013, and attracted audiences of over 3,500 people to Middle Head to experience the work.

Durational Book : collaborative real-time fictive hybrid “book” project

For the past few days I have been submitting text & images to Durational Book, a collaborative real-time project at the State Library of NSW, creating hybrid/ digital/ analogue/ textual / media / bookish / objects. The material emerges from explorations into archives of the library. Collaborators are Chris Caines, Zoe Sadokierski, Megan Heyward, Astrid L’Orange, Jacquie Kasunis and Tom Fethers. Notes for Walking – large audience numbers

I’m thrilled to report that I received the final iTunes figures today up until Jan 27. The Notes for Walking app received over 1,200 app downloads during the Festival- 1,227 to be exact. There were also over 1400 unique Junaio channel users during January. And with a steady stream of visitors onsite, many sharing devices in small groups, we estimate the work has experienced high audience numbers- likely to be between 3,000 to 4,000 visitors during the Sydney Festival in January. This is wonderful & really quite amazing news!

Thanks so much to Sydney Festival, Mosman Art Gallery, UTS CMAI, National Parks & Wildlife Service, MOB, UTS FASS, UTS CPCE, all my colleagues & friends, and all of you who came to visit Middle Head & experience the work. And though the signs will come down this week, you can still experience the work either via the app or Junaio- it is still there, living in the ether, for at least a while yet. I will also be producing a version optimised for iPad, for international release, very soon i.e. the next 4 weeks. I will keep you posted at the dedicated site Notes for Walking here:-

Notes for Walking launched!

Notes for Walking was launched on Saturday January 5, 2013. We had a great launch with around forty people attending, and then exploring Middle Head. The overwhelming response was very, very positive! The Notes site and the Facebook page have a lot more photos. Running 5-27 January as part of the Sydney Festival.

Note 3 preview : Notes for Walking

Notes for Walking was submitted to Apple (for iPhone) and to Junaio (for Android users) for release a few days back…now just a waiting game. Everything is looking great! In the meantime here is a preview of Note 3; featuring extra low frequency sound recorded at Middle Head itself.
